No creativity? Let's try thinking like this

4/5/2016 · 3 min read

Every designer will encounter a time when creativity is exhausted, and many people will choose to refer to competing products at this time.

But

If you are a conscientious designer, you can try this to expand your innovative ideas:

1.Expand usage

Not easy to understand, right?

Let’s take an example. WeChat’s chat page has expanded from simply communicating with people to sending red envelopes and accepting notifications from public accounts. This is an expanded use of the chat function.

**Psychologically speaking, extending existing functions is easier for users to accept and the learning cost is lower. **

2. Quote other creative ideas

**Based on the positioning of your product, refer to products with similar status in users’ minds. **

If you design a high-end e-commerce platform, you can refer to the color matching and some design elements of luxury brands. So have you noticed that MacBook seems to have the temperament of a Porsche sports car? Yes, Mr. Qiao once asked his designers to do this.

3. Adjust transformation, order, position, time...

Transform the original process or structure. For example, general e-commerce requires registration and login when clicking to purchase, resulting in a large number of user losses. **If users are allowed to verify their identity after completing the order, the experience will be greatly improved. In fact, identity verification is always there, but the order is changed, and the experience is more than a little better. **

4.Consideration

**Break the conventional way of thinking and try to analyze whether going against the trend can lead to a surprise victory. **

The best example is snapchat. Normal chat applications have always been used to send photos. However, the developers of snapchat found that young people hope that the photos they send will not be spread everywhere, so they designed the seemingly anti-human function of "burning after reading". After it was launched, it was very popular among young people.

5.Regroup

**Reorganize the original irrelevant content. **

NetEase Cloud Music combines songs with social networking. Each song can be marked like a post and evaluated. Users can communicate through a song, which greatly improves the activity rate of the product.

6.Metaphor

Mock up your virtual product into an actual product to give users a sense of familiarity.

The iPhone is the best at metaphors. From unlocking gestures to icon design and transition animations, they all use scenes from life as metaphors. I won’t list them all here.

7. Simplified and convenient

It sounds a bit false, but in fact, simplification in terms of process and function is an innovation.
