Sketch Alpha Masking Tutorial

12/11/2014 · 2 min read

I have been learning Sketch by myself for almost 3 days, and I feel it is really simple and practical.

But there are some obstacles in mask learning.

The tutorials searched on Baidu are almost the same for clipping masks, but there seems to be a lack of detailed tutorials for alpha masks, including the domestic official ones, which are too abstract.

Now I will share with you some of my own experiences~

  1. Make sure the layer position of the bitmap you want to use as a mask is above the mask vector image;
  2. Select the vector image, select use mask in Layer, and then select Alpha mask in mask mode.
  3. Okay, let’s get to the point. You will find that there is no masking effect. We add the gradient color to the vector layer. In Sketch, the gradient color is above the gradient and the color transparency is below.

Alpha mask mainly relies on controlling the transparency of the gradient. The lower the transparency of the black to white gradient color I use here, the lower the transparency of the image will be naturally. The gradient operating lever can control the range of transparency transition, for example:

, of course, it can also be changed like this by controlling the joystick:

This is my first time writing a tutorial, and I hope I can get to know more fans and communicate with you. Below is my WeChat account
